Actinic keratosis | ALHYDRAN offers effective healing and aftercare

Actinic keratosis: sun-damaged skin care with ALHYDRAN support

Skin complaints after actinic keratosis treatment
Sun damage (actinic keratosis) can potentially be an early stage of skin cancer. Because of the risk of skin cancer, larger patches must be treated.

Treatment can cause a skin reaction:

Fiery redness
Itching
Dry skin

Effective after-care of the treated skin is therefore important. ALHYDRAN provides this effective after-care.

What is actinic keratosis?

Sun damage (actinic keratosis) can occur on parts of the body exposed to sunlight, usually the head or hands. Sun damage often manifests itself as a small patch of ‘horny’ skin that feels rough to the touch. Often several of these patches will appear close together. The colour varies from skin colour to red or brown.

Most people develop sun damage later in life, but it can also affect young people whose skin is exposed to the sun for long periods of time, such as those who play sports in the sun or who spend a lot of time in the sun on the water.

Sun damage can potentially be an early stage of skin cancer. Because of the risk of skin cancer, larger patches must be treated. It can be treated with 5-fluorouracil or photodynamic therapy (PDT). This treatment should be done in consultation with a doctor or dermatologist.

Treatment can cause a skin reaction, ALHYDRAN provides this effective after-care.

What is actinic keratosis?
Actinic keratosis is damage to the skin due to sun exposure. This is usually caused by exposure to a lot of sunlight for years. It mainly occurs on parts of the body that are frequently or easily exposed to the sun, such as the head or hands.

Sun damage is often a small spot on the skin that is ‘keratinized’ and feels rough. Usually, several of these spots occur near each other. The colour varies from skin-coloured to red or brown.

Most people develop actinic keratosis later in life. But you can suffer sun damage at any age if the skin is exposed too much to the sun. This can happen, for example, if you exercise a lot in the sun or are often on the water in the sun.

Actinic keratosis is mainly found on skin that has received a lot of sunlight for years, such as:

On top of a bald head
Hand
Forearm
Nose
Eyebrow
Forehead
Eyelid
Cheekbone
Ear
Lip
Lower leg
Foot

Treatment of actinic keratosis
Sunlight damage is benign, but it is a possible precursor to skin cancer. Because of this risk, it is usually treated.

The treatment is done, among other things, with:

Medical cream (5-fluorouracil)
Laser treatment
Chemical peeling
Photodynamic therapy (PDT)
Freezing

After the treatment
Each of these treatments can cause quite severe skin reactions. The skin condition appears to worsen before recovery begins. Fiery redness, itching and dry skin are common complaints. Therefore, good aftercare of the skin is important. Sun protection is also crucial, because the skin is extra vulnerable to UV radiation after treatment.

ALHYDRAN provides good aftercare and protection of the skin.
